Pluto Pluto is the only known example of a planet having synchronous rotation caused by tidal braking from Charon. Pluto always shows the same side to Charon. Charon always shows the same side to Charon. Thus from each sky, the other hangs in the same place in the sky all the time. The only motion is slight back and forth movements due to Charon's eccentricity. Pluto has a strange axial tilt of 122.52°, causing strange seasons. Pluto has the greatest orbital eccentricity -- 0.2482. That means that Pluto farthest distance from the Sun is significantly greater than its nearest distance. Forward to Comets |
